Yummy Fruits for a Happy Tummy by Jeanne Fortune and the Monties is an illustrated children’s book about fruits from around the world. The book starts with a brief introduction and a section summarizing the benefits of the featured fruits. The fruits, classified based on their colors, appear on the following pages, where important information about each of them is provided along with colorful illustrations. The book also contains several fruit recipes, including juices, popsicles, sandwiches, and toast. An analysis focusing on the nutritional value of the recipes is added at the end of the book.
Jeanne Fortune and the Monties’ Yummy Fruits for a Happy Tummy is equally captivating in terms of its appearance and contents. The book is beautifully illustrated and remarkably well organized. Many of the fruits I read about were unfamiliar to me, and I learned a lot of facts about the known as well as the unknown fruits from different parts of the world. I also loved the recipe section; it is full of simple, interesting, and delicious dishes. As it has clear directions, young readers can easily prepare these recipes with the help of their parents or caregivers. The book will encourage children who do not enjoy eating fruits to try them out. I also appreciated the notes of caution about food allergens and the use of potentially dangerous equipment in the kitchen. I would recommend this book for children aged eight to ten, but it will prove useful for older readers as well.
