12th Man For Death by Gregory Randall is everything you’d expect from this exciting author. Catherine Voss is murdered while taking her revolutionary new trimaran for a test sail. Her twin brother wants answers so he calls in Sharon O’Mara, Facilitator, to solve the mystery. This tough, genuine woman is ready for the challenge, even though she’s not so keen on water. This is a far from simple case - matching her own far from straightforward life - that takes her to several exotic locations while searching for the answer. As with many of the mysteries she becomes entangled with, she is drawn into contact with some powerful, menacing people - “rich crazies” - and finds herself in danger but refuses to back down. A surprise, much larger than she could ever have imagined, awaits Sharon at the end of the story, and the reader is left awaiting her next adventure.

As with all the Sharon O’Mara Chronicles, this novel is fast-paced, meticulously researched and fascinating. Randall’s attention to details ensures that every scene is realistic and factually accurate. We’re there on board Catherine’s hyrdofoil, in Paris, in Iraq, in Venice. We’re also there with Sharon, seeing inside her head and sharing her struggles and successes. She is a complex human being, with flaws and idiosyncrasies like the rest of us; she’s someone we’d like to know. Along the way she meets other equally convincing characters, although not all as likable as she is. The plot is imaginative and plausible and doesn't let up for a second. This is altogether an accomplished and absorbing novel.

Our tale begins with Catherine Voss flying through the waves in her 36 foot trimaran. The craft was her baby and she was the only one on the Cougar although it was designed for five. The fog rolled in low and quick, offering cover to the ship that pulled alongside the Cougar. The men that boarded her pointed their machine guns at Catherine’s head. She was found wrapped in the rigging of her boat. Her death was ruled an accidental drowning despite the bruise on her forehead. Mike Stroud was her crew chief and lead tech. Jean-Francois (JF) hired Sharon O’Mara to investigate the death of his sister Catherine. Catherine took racing very seriously. She would not accept second place; it had to be first place or nothing. Sharon is sure that someone killed Catherine; but why? Was she murdered because of the upcoming race or did a foreign government want to get their hands on her technology. Whoever they were they were willing to kill again to stop Sharon from disclosing the truth.

This is the fourth volume in the Sharon O’Mara series. Readers will enjoy the suspense and wit of the characters in 12th Man in Death. The plot of this tome is built around the American Cup race. The reader needs to be aware of the foul language in this book. This book has it all: a touch of romance, and thrills and chills that will keep the reader quickly turning the pages to see what will happen next. The 12th Man in Death is a great read.

Private investigator Sharon O'Mara returns in this spell-binding thriller "12th Man for Death" by author Gregory Randall. Catherine Voss has developed a trimaran that she knows will do well in the upcoming America’s Cup Race. It can be handled by a single person; it is affordable and has a new finish that will shed water well. Catherine sails her invention across San Francisco Bay in heavy fog and ends up dead, drowned in her boat's rigging. Her trimaran which she calls "The Cheetah" is found with a hole in its starboard hull. Catherine's gorgeous twin, Jean-Francoise, aka JF, is convinced that Catherine was murdered and hires Sharon O'Mara to investigate. But "The Cheetah" is missing. The more she investigates, the more flashbacks she has to her time as an Army lieutenant in Iraq in 2005. Back then, she and fellow soldiers looked into a possible kidnapping of two little girls, which wasn't what it seemed. "The 12th Man" is the almost nonexistent seat in the middle of the crossbeam of a boat's stern and with this case, Sharon feels as though she is the 12th man on a racing crew.

"12th Man for Death" by Gregory Randall is a well-written thriller that will captivate readers everywhere. It is filled throughout with great action, drama and suspense. Sharon O'Mara is a great central character, tough but sexy and all woman. Readers will enjoy other characters such as police detective Kevin Bryan, the delightful, elderly pseudo Frenchman Alain and his granddaughter Claudette, JF, Ellis Turner and her assistant Eva Krug who once served in South Africa in its security forces. They are all believable characters that come to life on the pages of the story. The plot proceeds with breath-taking twists and turns to the story's last page. So, thriller fans everywhere, don't miss "The 12th Man for Death" whatever you do!
