A leader is not someone who repeats slogans or shares data, but rather is a natural, honest, and empathetic person. They are someone who takes responsibility for results, both their own and the team's. To be in control and move in the right direction, a leader needs to connect with people. There won't always be perfect moments, because you'll need to talk to colleagues, give feedback, and know how to act when you don't have the answer to a problem. It is also essential to understand how to handle difficult conversations and resolve conflicts between employees so that the group can function. Jay Sternberg offers readers a guide in 3 Things: Real Moments. Honest Coaching. Practical Leadership. Through anecdotes, he teaches readers how to speak with intention in moments of tension to maintain control. He also explains how to strengthen company culture, values, and team dynamics.

Jay Sternberg writes from a business results-oriented perspective, but with a human approach. For example, one significant topic I found is leaders who work with colleagues who don't recognize their own potential. He explains how to support them in facing their fears and learning to value their skills. He also discusses frequent problems, such as rebuilding trust when it has been lost in the team. I loved the structure of the chapters. They are all short and begin with an anecdote or typical situation. Jay Sternberg explains the main points and concludes with reflection questions to help us apply what we have learned. This makes for interesting and engaging reading because all the stories are based on real events and are easy to relate to. Sternberg's 3 Things teaches us how to use emotional intelligence and be the best version of ourselves in an authentic way.
