The Further Adventures of Erig the Earwig by Andy Evans is a well-written book that takes children on a trip into nature to learn about insects, their unique behaviors, and features. Andy begins by introducing two best friends, Erig, an earwig, and Bob, a copper beetle, who love adventures, making new friends, and solving problems in Long Garden. On a winter night, Little Ffion's cries awaken the best friends, who were fast asleep. Her friend Ron is missing, and she needs their help finding him. While on the quest to find Ron, they encounter other insects, such as Maeve, a white moth; Widgit; and Horace, a house spider. Andy also writes stories about the dragonflies, centipedes, spiders, the process of metamorphosis in common blue butterflies, the ancient Japanese art of origami, and more.

After reading this book, I have come to see the beauty of insects, understand their important roles in the environment, and better appreciate nature. I sincerely commend the author for using simple, relatable, and very well-developed characters so that children are not confused while reading. I loved the other exciting ways to learn about insects discussed at the end of this book. The brilliant illustrations by Lucy Fleming made the stories more engaging to read. I had a good laugh while reading, and I think this book would make a fun bedtime story as well as help kids develop a passion for reading. The writing is well-paced, organized, and easy for kids to comprehend. Themes featured include friendship, adventure, teamwork, kindness, and more. I recommend The Further Adventures of Erig the Earwig by Andy Evans to all children and anyone who loves nature and insects.
