Author Biography

Ian Thompson was born in Liverpool, England, but has lived most of his life in a small town in Cheshire. He has always loved good tales - whether in the form of novels and short stories, TV shows, movies, comics or video games. He likes fast-paced adventures, strong and unusual characters, gritty action and twists he wasn't expecting. Being taken away into the realm of someone's imagination has always appealed to him and has driven him to create realms of his own.

His debut novel, PARADISE EXHUMED, was released in February 2015 - a murderous whodunit thriller, set in modern-day Britain, with a pair of investigative reporters hunting a brutal and seemingly unstoppable killer.

For his second novel, Ian released the first part of a war-torn action fantasy: ERA OF DARKNESS - VOLUME I : THE APOCALYPSE BEGINS. This has been followed by three Short Tales and the first release in a spin-off series of Era Of Darkness Novellas, SURVIVAL I: SLAUGHTER AT GHASTAR.

Ian's third novel is a dark horror tale. GOD OF WAR sees events two thousand years ago have terrible repercussions today. In Ancient Britain, during the Roman Occupation, an ambitious man seeks to create 'something special' for Nero's gladiatorial arenas. In modern-day Britain, a group of cavers discover the results of Roman endeavors... and find themselves hunted by a monstrosity that kills both to feed and to satiate its sadistic desires.

His next began his Short Horror Tales Series - stories designed to offer readers quick reads that are rich in thrills, chills and unexpected twists. GLANCING BLOW, HOOKER, CHAINED, IGNITION SOURCE, HOUSE OF MY DREAMS and BUG HUNT were the first six in the ongoing series.

ERA OF DARKNESS, VOLUME II: EXTINCTION was released in March 2016 - providing a devastating conclusion to the fantasy war saga.

God Of War by Ian Thompson is a suspense filled novel that will appeal most to an audience made up of a mix of mature young adults and adults who enjoy the idea of being scared out of their minds. God Of War portrays a horror that started back during the Roman occupation when one Gaius Pertinax wanted to find something more, something really special for the gladiators. What he brought about was a horror that still exists in modern times and is found by a group of cavers who are hunted by it.

God Of War will make even the bravest reader quake in their shoes; it is a book best read during the day as reading it at night is likely to give nightmares. God Of War is extremely well written with each scene described in fluent language that transitions beautifully from one scene to the next. Ian Thompson offers multiple perspectives from different time periods and characters to really allow the reader to understand the horror, the events, as well as the characters themselves. Each character was well written; my favorite part was the beginning of the book that focuses on John, Mary, and Melissa. I really felt for all of them and was sadden by the tragedy of their lives. I finished God Of War feeling shaken and a bit worried about nightmares, but that is the mark of a good horror novel.

God of War is a well-written, descriptive and enthralling page-turner, that's not for the faint-hearted.

The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next and who would survive (or not).

I liked the way the modern story and the one set in Roman times were told in alternating chapters through the book.

The characters, both ancient and modern, were fleshed out and believable.
I can't say I liked all the characters, but then they weren't all supposed to be likable.

A great book my a new-to-me author - I will be adding more books from Ian Thompson to my to-read list.

I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
