“A Conservative’s Primer on the Bible: Spiritual Emphasis on Understanding the Bible, the Gospel, Salvation, and the Role of the Church,” written by Bob Ward, is an in-depth, yet easily read and understood, collection of thoughts and truths designed to provide the reader with more knowledge of and insight into the most widely published book of all time, the Holy Bible. Ward’s book is divided into thirteen chapters and each chapter is well-defined. The book begins with a chapter devoted to proving the Bible, and then a chapter discusses who God really is as these two chapters are foundations to Christianity. Other chapters focus on salvation, the church and the importance of the church, church officers and church functions. Each of these chapters is well-researched and filled with verses from the Bible that are explained in detail.
I grew up attending Sunday School and church and attended a Christian, Bible-believing college for my undergraduate study and I found myself being reminded of so many of the truths that I have learned through the years, but also learning many new things as well. I really like the author’s style of writing throughout this book. He is very candid and to the point; therefore, it was not an overwhelming task to read it. It does not have a judgmental tone, but it teaches or hopes to guide the reader to gain more knowledge. This is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the basic premises of Christianity, especially for those wanting to be a part of a church that truly reflects the design of the church that God intended.
