A Devil in Every Dark Corner by Amanda Braun Boe is the first book in the Otherworldly Investigations series. Imogen has spent her entire life around the otherworldly, thanks to her family’s business. Otherworldly Investigations helps people by hunting monsters but she has spent recent years wishing to follow a different path. She’s drawn back into her family’s business when her sister Carmen reaches out for help. The sisters discover a startling truth behind recent murders which have a connection to the Thistle Witch who has powerful abilities and a dangerous plan being set in motion. But if they are to stand a chance of winning the fight, the sisters will have to turn to a power that could prove to be more dangerous than the Thistle Witch.

Imogen is an immediately likable and endearing character who is charming, witty, and relatable. Part of her journey is the closeness with her family which is presented through wholesome scenes that show the dynamics between them. Amanda Braun Boe allows you to see the heart within the family and connect with each of them. Carmen is a significant character in Imogen’s story both as her sister and as the catalyst for bringing her back home. She contributes to the humor and adds a lightness that will no doubt make you smile. The story has an incredible world as a backdrop with established rules that help ground the setting in reality with pocket demons, powerful magic, and real dangers. The world consists of a variety of demons, ghosts, and monsters that the family hunts with the magical elements having a significant place in the story. Magic plays an important role in the characters’ lives such as Carmen’s shapeshifting abilities and Imogen’s deep connection to it. This world is vivid with intricate mythology - monsters, a ship taken over by a ragtag group of monsters, and a mysterious dog sighting. Each part creates an originality that draws you into the world and makes it a fun ride from beginning to end. A Devil in Every Dark Corner is witty and clever with original storytelling, top-notch humor, the bonds of family, and powerful magic.

A Devil in Every Dark Corner by Amanda Braun Boe describes how Imogen Abernathy does not want to be a witch any longer and gets a job at Lulu’s Bakery in Brier. Imogen’s younger sister Carmen had a mishap, and Imogen was asked to return home. Another reason for this is that her parents are going on vacation, and she must help Carmen run the business. Otherworldly Investigations hunts ghosts and monsters, and Imogen and Carmen investigate murders. In this case, the murders are linked to the Thistle Witch, a being with demonic powers. The sisters must use ancient and dangerous witchcraft if they are to have any chance of stopping the Thistle Witch. Can Imogen and Carmen find a way to protect themselves and their families?

A Devil in Every Dark Corner is intriguing and exciting. Amanda Braun Boe created a world of magic and evil, and I became part of this world. With the descriptions of the events, it was easy to visualize them and the surroundings. Some of the incidents were vivid and scary. With all the twists and turns, I never knew what would happen next. It was fast-paced, full of action, and never dull. The characters were realistic and robust. My favorite was Imogen. She gave up being a witch and was not afraid to start a new, normal life. When her family needed her, she did not hesitate to go back and help. The story is brilliantly written, and I enjoyed reading it. It exceeded my expectations by far.

Do you believe in fairies? And cryptids, and ghosts, and witches? You will, after reading A Devil in Every Dark Corner, a wonderful, odd, and fun story by Amanda Braun Boe. The story follows the lives of two sisters, Imogen (Immy) and Carmen, who are anything but ordinary. These young women come from a family of monster hunters who also happen to be witches! Immy, after a traumatic event, tries to escape that life full of magic and supernatural occurrences and moves to a nearby town to lead a simple, monster-free life. However, after her parents' request to come home and help with the family business, Immy had to comply and go home. Since her parents were planning on retiring from Otherworldly Investigations, the family business in hunting monsters of all kinds and helping people get rid of them, Immy had to choose this life again to help her younger sister Carmen with the job. Little did she know the next case of finding a masked killer and a mysterious dog would turn out to be one of the hardest and most intriguing cases she's ever been on, entwined with her and her family's past. The thin line between an old witch legend and reality will become blurry and dangerous.

Amanda Braun Boe incorporates a wonderful sense of humor into the story about family relations, love, and monsters, playing with up-to-date popular culture references to the movies, the Devil, and other otherworldly creatures, which all fit perfectly with the characters of Immy and Carmen - quirky, funny, sarcastic at times, but caring and knowledgeable. The book's formatting and appearance are quite impressive because they follow the witchy, gothic theme that permeates the story, which I thoroughly enjoyed while reading. Furthermore, how Amanda Braun Boe describes the strange occurrences and mysterious creatures makes for a delightful array of cute and often misunderstood demonic side characters prevalent in the story of Immy and Carmen...and cats, which won me over from the first time they were introduced. A Devil in Every Dark Corner is a great and exciting story that everyone should read at least once.
