ABCs of Safe Web Surfing by C.D. Richardson is a colorful, kid-friendly guide to staying safe on the internet. It’s an ABC book that introduces important digital concepts to children with one concept for each letter. Some of the ideas covered are AI, cyberbullying, empathy, passwords, and social media. Each is explained in a way that’s easy for kids to understand and paired with a short, catchy rhyme to reinforce safe online behavior. Young readers also learn the value of balancing screen time with other activities, thinking before they post, and turning to a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right. Cheerful and engaging pictures by Christina Rudenko bring each page to life and reinforce each message.

From an educator’s perspective, ABCs of Safe Web Surfing by C.D. Richardson is a much-needed resource for both classrooms and homes. It’s no longer optional to teach children how to be safe online; it’s an essential skill they need. I appreciated how accessible the language is for young readers without being too simple, and the rhyming structure helps to keep them engaged and reinforce each topic’s point. The pacing works well for elementary-aged children and allows each concept to stand out on its own, while also building a better understanding of being safe using the internet. I especially liked how the book encourages critical thinking and asking for help when needed. The activities at the end of the book are a good addition, too. The illustrations by Christina Rudenko are a perfect match for the content since they are colorful, fun, and relatable to children. This book would make an excellent addition to any elementary classroom or home library. It offers just the right mix of education and entertainment.
