Artificial Flowers by J.A. Hailey is a stunning opening for The Screenside Trilogy, a story of love that takes readers beyond the physical world to encounter a consciousness akin to humans in the virtual internet world. The artificial intelligence developed to run in the internet space has created a conscious world of its own. Now the beings that can only be viewed through computer screens or heard through microphones are beginning to yearn for a more exciting and meaningful life. They want to be every bit human, now they are on the process of humanization. But can they live like humans even though they have no bodies? Readers are introduced to a powerful love story involving the most beautiful female of all time, Esmeralda, a story that is as exciting as it is real.
J.A. Hailey has imagined a story that is every bit as crazy as it is exciting, a virtual world bubbling with conscious life. Artificial Flowers will come across as a great treat for readers who love internet games and who are interested in artificial intelligence. The story is well-written, a polished prose punctuated by great dialogues. The plot is like nothing I have seen before, but it moves fast and it is fairly complex. The author combines humor with wit to create lofty dialogues that help to enhance the plot and character development. Exchanges like the one below are spread throughout the writing:
"Esmeralda, huh? Hunchback? Paris? Notre Dame?"
"And religion?"
"Mr. Before Christ, I live in a cathedral."
"Has anyone told you how beautiful you are?"
"I told you how beautiful I am."
"You misled. You are the most beautiful female of all time."
"You really have to stop googling while talking."
Artificial Flowers offers a new concept and features compelling characters, beautiful sculpted and immersed in a story that takes place in an exciting virtual space. Can’t wait to see where the next book in the trilogy will take readers.
