Barking for Breakfast: A Bark Crew Adventure by JB Henly is a lovely children’s book for very young readers between 3 and 7 years old. It is both entertaining and educational. It is the story of three dogs, called Lola, Max, and Rocky, who live with Sarah, a charming young lady. The dogs team up every morning to make sure Sarah doesn’t forget it is breakfast time. Each dog has their way of barking, and they form the "Bark Crew." However, one day their nice owner lies in… And that’s the beginning of hell for our three cute dogs who need to have breakfast! The game in the book ensures a great addition to the story: the children have the additional task of finding eight bones in the pictures. The illustrations by Kelly Bryant are gorgeous.
Barking for Breakfast by JB Henly is an extremely interesting, sweet, and original children’s book. It is wholly entertaining with the story of these three lively doggies who do not know (at first) what to do about their breakfast. What is more, it is educational on two levels: it teaches kids about dogs (why they bark) and about us (why breakfast is important, and what its goals are). What I enjoyed is that this story is so amusing. The story is lighthearted and playful, with a fun moment when Rocky takes charge and wakes Sarah up when she sleeps in. It’s easy for kids to relate to, especially if they have ever had a pet who would not let them sleep late! I loved it when Rocky said: “I need to take matters in my own paws.” What a clever play on words All in all, this is a fantastic book. I warmly recommend it
