The universe sometimes bestows extraordinary gifts upon the most unexpected people. In Bestowing H by B. R. Widney, Hollis’s thirteenth year marks a significant transition in her life as she moves from childhood into adolescence. She discovers she has an inherited gift called “Aisling”, a magical ability that is passed down only to the females of their family and grows stronger with every generation. With her awakening powers, Hollis gains a protector, Sam, a Cepan bound to her by destiny. Yet, Sam is far more than he appears. As Halloween approaches, the veil between the living and spirit worlds weakens, and Hollis becomes more attuned to her Aisling abilities. As Hollis’s visions grow stronger, she finds herself pulled into the past and into a danger far greater than she ever anticipated.

Bestowing H is a compelling fusion of supernatural fantasy and coming-of-age drama, based on the complexity of family legacies. The use of family history and ancestral magic seamlessly blended the past into the present. B. R. Widney balanced the world-building with layered narratives and character developments that left me wanting more. The relationship between Sam and Hollis is at the heart of the story, offering a compelling mix of mystery and trust. Hollis’s growth is defined by her courage to confront the unknown and her decision to reclaim the legacy of her family. Gramma Nae also played a big role as the eccentric, intuitive storyteller who introduced the history of Aisling bearers and gave a deeper glimpse into the past that shaped their family legacy. The story taught me the importance of hope, heritage, and healing. Understanding and embracing family history can be a source of strength and is a part of what defines us. Overall, this is a compelling start to a promising series. It reminds readers how powerful stories can be when rooted in family and history. Excellent work!

During a visit to Grandma Nae’s ancestral home in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Hollis and her brothers, Asher and Silas, uncover the stories that shape their family’s legacy. As they explore the land surrounding the Diamond Willow Ranch, Hollis discovers she has inherited a mysterious gift—Aisling, a bridge between her world and a parallel realm suspended in time. Guided by Sam, an older boy from another era and her designated Cepan, Hollis begins to understand the depth of her connection to a past steeped in black magic, witchery, and dangerous prophecy. Through Grandma Nae’s storytelling and Sam’s guardianship, Hollis is drawn into a haunting legacy that threatens to reshape her own destiny and that of future generations.

Bestowing H: An Aisling Series by B.R. Widney is the first instalment in a planned coming-of-age fantasy series that blends witchcraft, magical realism, and emotional depth. Widney’s prose evokes the timeless cadence of literary masters—Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and J.K. Rowling’s intricate world-building in the Harry Potter series. But unlike today’s trend of fast-paced fantasy, Bestowing H is a slow-burning, atmospheric read. It unfolds with deliberate suspense, layered twists, and a quiet urgency that keeps the reader leaning forward, while soaking up the attention to detail that provides a vivid perspective of the scene. Widney’s style has a sensitivity and emotional resonance that evokes narrative intimacy. Bestowing H is a compelling debut, and I’m eager to see where the series goes next.

Bestowing H by B.R. Widney is a well-written fantasy about a family's history. The family includes the parents, Miranda and Allen, and their children, Hollis, Asher, and Silas. The family visits their grandma, Gramma Nae, at Diamond Willow, and Hollis and Silas are beginning to notice strange things on the ranch. Gramma Nae is aware and decides to share with her grandchildren a story of their ancestors to help them understand their past. However, Hollis seems to be connected to something deeper. She always sees strange visions and dreams and finds out she inherited an ancestral gift called "Aisling," which enables her to see the magical bridge between the spirit and physical realm. As Gramma Nae tells her stories, the children learn about the ranch's history, the settlers, black magic, and old evil, and Hollis begins to understand that she plays a great role as heir to their family's legacy.

I loved how the author showed the connection between family, spirituality, and the idea of destiny. I realized how much having a good knowledge of our past can help guide us today. The writing is very detailed and engaging. I loved the way she described the ranch, the dark spirits, and the excitement and enjoyment the grandchildren felt as they listened to Gramma Nae's story. I loved how the revelations, like Hollis' Aisling gift and her Cepan protector, Sam, were introduced. The author kept me in suspense about what was about to unfold, using stories from Gramma Nae, the relationship between Hollis and Sam, and the strange things that happened on the ranch. I was able to connect deeply with the storyline and characters. The characters were well-developed and made me want to listen to folktales. Bestowing H by B.R. Widney is really a great read, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy novels with mystery, family, and history.
