Beyond Blood is a novel in the mystery and sleuth genres by Linda M. Williams. A homeless teenager named Addison is questioned by Detective Sam Warner. Addison claims a ghost told her where to find a dead body. Sam asks JJ Gilbert to come to the police station to prove Addison is lying about the ghost. When Addison is attacked by the victim's angry spirit, JJ must contend not only with the furious spirit but also with Addison, who believes her ability to sense ghosts makes her wicked. The killer soon discovers Addison is being protected by the police and will not stop until she is out of the way. JJ takes Addison into her home and has to protect Addison while also trying to figure out why she has been living on the streets.

Linda M. Williams created a world of murder, danger, angry spirits, and guardian angels in Beyond Blood. It was a page-turner, and I could not turn the pages fast enough. I had to know what would happen next, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. So much was happening that I was kept guessing until the end. The characters were brilliantly developed and authentic. My favorite character was Addison. She is a very strong teenager and manages to survive while living on the streets. I hoped that Addison could find a place to live where she could be happy after all the trauma she had been through. The story was excellently written, and I could not have wished for a better ending. It was much more than I expected.

Beyond Blood: A JJ Gilbert Mystery by Linda M. Williams is an intriguing story about JJ Gilbert, a medium who helps the police solve complex crimes. When a murder is witnessed by a fourteen-year-old girl, who says the ghost of the deceased visited her, JJ is called in to assist. When JJ realizes that the girl, Addison, is a genuine medium who doesn’t accept or understand her gift, JJ takes it upon herself to help Addison appreciate her uniqueness and extraordinary talent. While JJ is helping Addison, Detective Sam Warner is trying to solve the murder of the football coach who appeared before Addison. Detective Sam and her partner Brad have their work cut out for them, and reluctantly, Sam realizes that she won’t be able to solve this mystery without the help of JJ.

If supernatural, unexplainable mysteries interest you, then definitely read Linda M. Williams’ Beyond Blood. The author made sure that I wasn’t able to guess who the murderer was up until the very end. Now and again, she would throw a curve ball, making me doubt my suspicions. Her writing style made for an excellent mystery. I loved the way Linda illustrated how Addison grew by accepting who she is and what she can do through JJ’s guidance. The plot is exciting, with interesting scenarios of affairs and rumors to keep your attention. The real reason why the football coach was murdered will have you gasping with surprise. I definitely did. I would love to read more about JJ Gilbert and was excited to see that six books are just waiting for me to buy and read.

When Hillcrest High School's multiple trophy-winning football coach ends up at the bottom of a trail with a bullet in the back of his head, Sam is dead certain the suspect must be the homeless girl who called it in. By the time she brings JJ in on the crime scene and the reluctant girl starts talking about vengeful spirits trying to harm her, they wonder if they may have jumped the gun on this murder. JJ takes it upon herself to use her special gifts of communicating with otherworldly beings to gain this young girl's trust and find Zach Dorfman's killer but can she succeed where conventional methods have hit a brick wall? Only time will tell in Beyond Blood by Linda M. Williams.

A classic case of catching the killer plays out in Linda M. Williams’s supernatural detective mystery. Williams shows just how believable she wants this story to be with the emphasis on Sam’s skepticism in the early stage of the novel. The cast of characters is an interesting bunch as Williams uses curious backstories which are short yet heavy on drama to build up the reader’s anticipation and draw them into the story as the action progresses. Watching JJ do her stuff when interacting with the spirits is something of an unusual experience. The best part about this novel is how it can switch so fluidly from a straightforward crime mystery in one subplot to an emotional passing of the torch between JJ and Addison. Williams’s story does push the limits of the believable in a good mystery but it maintains the kind of depth and drama that makes Beyond Blood a must-read for supernatural mystery genre buffs.
