Bo the Boat is a children’s picture book by Clare Short. Bo the Boat rises early every morning because he has a busy day, and then he picks up Captain Mo. A friend carrying cars across the bay tells them to have a nice day. They catch fish, then Captain Mo’s fishing net gets stuck, and a crab's claw grabs his finger. Bo and Captain Mo rescue a baby whale who is lost at sea and cannot find his mother. It is a busy time filling the nets with fish, but Captain Mo and Bo are pleased with their haul, so they return to the bay. It is now time to swim and play in the water. They float around for a while. The sun is going down, and Bo the Boat takes Captain Mo home to get the rest he deserves.
Bo the Boat is a delightful picture book by Clare Short that supports early speech and language development for preschool children. The fun rhyming story in a poem will appeal to young minds, encouraging them to read, speak, and count more effectively. The book is structured to enable teachers and parents to follow the guidelines and help children learn. The words used are short, thus making pronunciation easier. Early speech sounds are letters b, h, m, n, p, and w. Early language and literacy concepts include pointing and naming items, counting items, paying attention to a story or task for 1-2 minutes, turning pages, understanding location words such as “in” and “on,” and following simple directions. The illustrations by Paula Rodriguez are nicely done, and I think the tug boat is the right vessel to use for Bo the Boat.
