Author Biography

Ex boxer, bouncer and former Vice President of a Brooklyn MC, Max is the embodiment of the American Dream; he completely turned his life around, and is now a multiple award winning writer & director.

Born in Iserlohn, West Germany, he is the son of an English Army soldier and a local German woman. He spent the first years of his life traveling with his family to a variety of postings including London, Germany, South Australia and Gibraltar.
At age 12, he landed on the mean streets of East London, where he joined a rock-n-roll-band, learned to play drums and a respectable blues harp, and did some serious amateur boxing. He left home and school when he was 15, eventually moving into tour management and sound mixing, working and playing for many famous European acts: Mungo Jerry, Manfred Mann, Wings, Berlin Rock Ensemble and Moonraker. Inevitably, he was drawn to the American shores, landing in Baltimore, MD, where he continued to work and play for now-forgotten bands, Face Dancer and Objects, amongst others.

In the early 90s, Max relocated to New York and started a music production company, but soon the collapse of Wall Street left him homeless and penniless. He drew upon his early days as an amateur boxer and informed by his experiences in the violent neighborhoods of East London, took on a succession of jobs as doorman and bouncer at some of New York's edgier nightclubs. It was in this era that he continued his street education, joining a biker gang and experiencing firsthand the lawlessness and corruption of society's underbelly.

By 1994, he recognized there was no future for him on the streets, so he took a job waiting tables and began his writing career. His first big break came in 1997 when he landed a development deal with Martin Scorsese's Cappa Productions, under the sage and gentle guidance of Barbara De Fina. Succumbing to the lure of Hollywood, Max moved west where he continues to write, direct and teach.

Boysie Blake: Problem Solver by Max Myers is a murder mystery set in Hollywood. Boysie is a problem solver. Not his own – yours. It doesn’t even matter if you pay him or not because he doesn’t do it for the money. He just wants you to be on the level with him – otherwise you could end up as the problem that Boysie needs to solve. Michael Santoro is Boysie’s stepfather. He was found face down in Sycamore Cove, apparently a victim of drowning while surfing. Detective Lawton tries to help with the investigation, but he has too many problems of his own. A powerful art dealer has managed to sort out a deal between two highly dangerous people from Hollywood for a Pollock that has never been seen before. The problem is, it’s a fake. Now the art dealer is in trouble for $150 million. Boysie has to solve this problem without any blood being spilt. The buyer is the dealer’s ex-husband and he wants her dead. The seller is a violent gangster and both have tough minders. The big question is, what does Santoro have to do with all of this? Was his death an accident or was there something more sinister at play here?

Boysie Blake: Problem Solver by Max Myers is murder mystery of epic proportions with all the ingredients for a top seller. Max Myers seems to have his finger on the pulse of Hollywood society – the dark side of it – and has written a novel that is worthy of the big screen. Excellent storyline, fantastic characters and the way it has been written is just amazing. It has a way of catching you unawares and keeping you hanging, making you read to find out what’s coming next. Great story, and I hope there’s more where this came from.

Boysie Blake is a problem solver and he doesn’t discriminate. A former boxing champion, London transplant and pub owner Boysie is a tough guy with a blunt way about him. In Boysie Blake: Problem Solver, we follow Blake as he navigates the murky and sometimes dangerous waters of life in Hollywood. His stepfather drowned under suspicious circumstances shortly after a real estate deal went sideways and that is just the beginning. There’s an art dealer with an ex-husband that wants to see Boysie take his last breath, a 3-D printed faux masterpiece and a May-December romance manages to blossom in the midst of the mayhem. Max Myers has written a riveting story complete with gangsters, art dealers, a downtrodden detective, the Vatican and a movie script.

The story Max Myers has penned is a unique telling of the old gangster films. There are several different story lines happening at once and, of course, they all converge into one eventually which gives the reader a lot to remember and plenty of action to enjoy. He does a good job of painting the hot Hollywood days with him and Celeste eating up the freeway, traipsing from one end of Southern California to the next. Boysie Blake: Problem Solver also features some very memorable characters including his demanding mum, the alcohol-loving priest, and the wannabe gangster, Jack Valentine. At times it feels as though too much is happening, but there is enough action to offset that feeling most of the time. This is a stylized story with many elements to enjoy, from art fraud to gangsters, religious cover ups and crazy family dynamics.

Boysie Blake: Problem Solver is a thriller written by Max Myers. Boysie owns a hotel in Santa Monica and is the co-owner of a successful English pub with his mother and brother, Harry. When he's not working out, driving around in Celeste, his vintage E-type Jaguar, or hanging out in the pub, Boysie solves problems for people who've exhausted all their other options. His mother has asked for his help with two problems, and his investigations into them are causing him and everyone around him a lot of grief. First, she's asked him to look into the suspicious drowning death of his stepfather, Michael. Michael was an avid and skilled surfer, who was found dead in a cove where board surfing is illegal and where there aren't any waves suitable for surfing. The other problem is for Marjorie, her best friend. Marjorie was the go-between for the purchase of a newly discovered Jackson Pollack, which has since been declared a forgery.

Max Myers' thriller, Boysie Blake: Problem Solver, is fast-paced, exciting and action-packed. Boysie is a marvelous character who suffers a demanding and unpleasant mother and an alcoholic brother with saintly patience that only occasionally gives way to flashes of irritation. Myers' main character is complex, idealistic and very believable. The story-line is well-developed, and I quickly was immersed in, and thoroughly enjoying, the story. The California coastal setting for Boysie Blake: Problem Solver is inspired; you can almost see the sun setting on the Pacific and hear Celeste roar as Boysie travels down the Pacific Coast Highway. Boysie Blake: Problem Solver has just about every ingredient necessary to give a thriller zing: action, conspiracies, art fraud and black ops operatives. My only complaint would be that, since reading this book, I've developed an insatiable urge for shepherd's pie, fish and chips, and pints of ale. I'm hoping that Myers brings Boysie back in a sequel to Boysie Blake: Problem Solver. This book is marvelous and is most highly recommended.
