In his book Called to Stay, author Caleb Breakey challenges all who have doubts about their own Christian belief system to rally to the cause and heal the church they have left because of disenchantment. Because many become angry with church organization, teachings, or the political dynamics of the church, they choose to leave it rather than work to make necessary changes. Breakey confronts those individuals and encourages them to rally to the cause of change. The author was once a break-away member who now believes that course is far too easy for true believers. In order to begin to heal the church, the reader must first begin to heal the self. This is not done in a judgmental manner; rather it is intended to show the reader that healing is a methodical process, whether with an individual or with an organization.
The book is both challenging and humorous - the perfect mix to capture the attention of those who believe the private path is the answer to their spiritual journey. Called to Stay is Caleb Breakey's way of telling readers that it just might take a bit more courage and conviction to fix the problem rather than walk away from it. Although older church members can benefit from the challenges to explore, the book is directed to the younger generation, those who believe they can go it alone, without a church espousing archaic beliefs and traditions. There is even a section to help the reader decide when it IS time to leave and go elsewhere. If you want a no-nonsense book with direction and purpose to help you stay the course, consider pondering the challenges in Called to Stay.
