In a jumbled collection of life’s memories that range from innocent childhood to unfazed adulthood, Karen Fainges takes the reader through genuinely funny experiences. Her dry humor and droll writing style often caused me to burst into unadulterated laughter, reminding me somewhat of my life’s adventures. I rarely review humorous works, but picking up "Can you Smell Burning" has brought me a rare moment of enjoyment.
Beneath the humor lie real experiences that everyone can relate to, and life’s lessons. Fainges has managed to open a window into something we often take for granted - that you shouldn't take life too seriously - and I am enriched being allowed to peek inside. This is a short work and I had to sigh when I came to the end, but closing the book, I did it with a smile. A tweak here and there would have made this little compilation a polished gem.
