CAT is Book 4 from the Zack Tolliver, FBI mystery-murder series by R. Lawson Gamble. When Eagle Feather, an Indian scout, is injured while tracking an inimitable mountain lion, federal agent Zack Tolliver takes an interest in the hunt for the animal. Eagle Feather is convinced a skin walker, who takes the shape of other animals, is involved. Zack does not believe in ancient folklore and tradition, but becomes worried when this elusive creature watches his home. As their investigation progresses, an Indian Seer who could help their case is murdered, and the evidence Zack gathers baffles him even more. Eagle Feather is more determined to catch the lion and heads into the canyon to find it. He soon realises that he is no longer the hunter but the prey when he encounters the giant beast.
CAT is a lovely, fast-paced mystery that will hold readers' attention. The stirring legend of the skin walker fascinated me. The Native Indian dialect, the characters’ reactions to the superstitions, and the ancient dwelling caves of their ancestors were also interesting. Although Zack Tolliver is the primary protagonist, the story had very impressive characters like the fearless Eagle Feather who makes witty remarks. It is a well-developed story and R. Lawson Gamble's writing style makes every scene and setting visible to readers. The cover illustration is ideally suited for the theme. CAT, Book 4 from the Zack Tolliver FBI mystery series is the first book I have read from this author and I intend to read more from this series.
