Chameleon Games by June V. Bourgo is book 2 in The Crossing Trilogy series. I did not read book 1 but I had no trouble getting into Chameleon Games. Chelsea, the main character, is a victim of kidnapping as a young woman and she was held captive for twenty years. This book explores her life after she is rescued, and June V. Bourgo gives us an idea of how hard it would be to reconnect with the present. Chelsea has her ups and downs but once she stops drowning her sorrows in drink, her confidence begins to pick up and she finds solace in volunteering at the animal rescue center. When her mentor and boss is attacked in his own home, Chelsea starts investigating. Combining the mystery of whodunit and why, the suspense was enough to keep me turning the pages.
Chameleon Games is the perfect title for this suspenseful family saga by June V. Bourgo. To live life after twenty years of captivity had Chelsea living like a chameleon, her learned talent of being able to adapt and fit into her surroundings without calling attention to herself and doing what is expected of her. Chelsea not only has to cope with learning how to continue her relationship with her mother, but also must reconnect with her grown daughter who was only a year old when she was taken. Bring in several dangerous thugs, a crime boss, a long-lost love, and a stint with the spirit world, and June V. Bourgo takes us on an intriguing journey in Chameleon Games.
