The encounter that three friends, Scott, Roc, and John, had with a bay monster is the focus of Pete Kramer's book, Chesapeake Bay Monsters. These friends found that the monster's blood had a special property that worked like a fountain of youth after they killed the monster. They decided to kill more monsters to market the blood and profit from it. The friends believed that by killing the monsters, they were saving the world from harm because there had been reports of people going missing and others seeing the monsters drag victims into the water. The friends knew they were in over their heads when their business venture turned risky, and they began to suspect that the monsters were responsible for other people's deaths in the neighborhood. All was not as it seemed, though, and more could be going on.
Fantasy, humor, suspense, and mystery are woven into the plot of Chesapeake Bay Monsters. The unique storyline was engaging and had me guessing until the end. This page-turner was fast-paced, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. Peter Kramer had me hooked from the start, and I never knew what would happen next. The characters were well-developed, and the three friends, with their strengths and flaws, were authentic and relatable. They maintained their friendship through the ups and downs and supported each other. Thanks to the characters ' banter and varied personalities, I had a lot of laughter between the terrifying experiences with the monsters. The story was well-written and, at times, darkly humorous, and I had a hard time putting it down.
