Cold Sleep by Luke Hindmarsh is a gripping futuristic thriller of epic proportions. It seemed like the easiest score possible. All Navigator Kara Rozanski and her partner Zed Hong had to do was wake up from cold sleep midway through their flight to the colony and steal a high-tech chip from one of the corporate VIPs on the flight. After all, he was in cryogenic sleep and wouldn’t miss it. The chip was illegal, so what was he going to say when it turned up missing? But when they got to his cryo-coffin, it was obvious someone or something had awakened before them. Two coffins stood open, one empty and one with the occupant slaughtered, their throat ripped out. There were rumors that some people came out of their coffins as a monster, a Revenant, a mindless beast. Whatever it was called, it was up to Kara and Zed to stop it.
Cold Sleep by Luke Hindmarsh is an action-packed techno-thriller set in the distant future, where Earth is overrun by slums and greedy corporations call all the shots, sending colonies into space to compete for dominance. The horrific adventure begins with the first scene and doesn’t end until the last paragraph, gripping me with the need to keep reading. I frankly could not put this book down. The world-building in this novel is outstanding, and the characters are well-defined and three-dimensional, all with flaws and virtues to make them more relatable and believable. The action is an adrenaline-pumping, gripping rollercoaster. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last.
