Dead Code by Glenda Carroll is the third book in her Trisha Carson Mystery series. Trisha Carson is your least likely amateur sleuth. This middle-aged woman is reclaiming her life after her husband left her, her father came back into her life after a twenty-five-year absence, and with the help of her sister, she is losing weight. When her landlord's grandson goes missing, Trisha investigates though her family is afraid she will get herself in trouble again. Suspicious activity in her neighborhood, a stolen identity, and her creepy refrigerator spying on her; Trisha decides she needs to dig deeper. Will she be able to find the person who stole her identity and the hacker who stalks her every move? The stakes get higher when the only person with the truth tries to kill her.
I found Dead Code an intriguing tale as Glenda Carroll blends suspense, mystery, and cybercrime into one unpredictable piece of entertainment. The action moves smoothly from one scene to the next as the tension mounts and Trisha gets closer to the truth. The characters are well-rounded with unexpected quirks. Trisha's insecurities play a role in how she investigates the few clues she is given. What I found endearing about Trisha is her stamina for probing though she is scared and misunderstood. She cared for those around her and put their happiness before her own, almost to her death. Mystery lovers will enjoy this amazing series. And those who have never been to the San Francisco area will get a feel for the vast weather changes, which I never expected.
