Mike Carey offers readers a thriller. His lead characters is Felix Fix Castor. Castor is an exorcist. The Londoner uses music to fight the forces of evil. In Dead Man’s Boots he is working on two cases. The court orders Fix’s friend John Gittings body to be cremated. The man’s widow fights the exhumation. The other case surrounds a gangster that has been dead for 40 years. Could Myriam Seafort Kale have raped and murdered from the grave?
Mike Carey was a new name to me. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of him earlier. It is definitely my loss. He has a talent for multifaceted characters, deep, riveting plots. His plot is filled with more twists and turns than a pretzel. This is the third Felix Castor book. Dead Man’s Boots is a fantastic thriller on the edge of horror. I do not usually like this genre. I avoid ghosts and exorcist. However, I may have to pick up the first two books in this series.
