Deep Black is a work of fiction in the science fiction and political thriller genres and was penned by the mysterious author Logan. With the author set as a character and narrator within the world of the work itself, this novel forms the first book of The Fall of the State series. Set following the year 2049, we find ourselves looking at society from the historical viewpoint of Logan, who claims expertise on the history of the State era and the time between its inevitable fall and the rise of the Union instead. What follows is a politically-minded futuristic thriller with many different layers, events, and elements to uncover to form the overall picture.
The character and creation of the author Logan adds yet more mystery to an already intriguing work, as we observe the action from a strangely endearing future perspective, looking back over a history that has yet to occur. Highly conceptual and plot-based, the work examines a lot of different characters, situations, and events that make up the wider events of the fall of the State. Fans of political power plays, moments of criminal action, espionage, battles of wits, and of the physical will see all of this and much more within Logan’s fascinating developments. The prose creates dynamic dialogue and cinematic scenes, which slowly connect along the plotlines to form the overall timeline of events. Fans seeking a conceptual and thought-provoking work will certainly enjoy Deep Black immensely for its excellent concept and solid writing.
