Diabetes Warrior is a splendid book offering excellent medical advice, and despite its small size...it's only 3 inches wide by 5 inches high...it should be in backpacks and hip-pockets everywhere. Author William Dubois offers step-by-step advice on dealing with diabetes, comparing accurate information about diabetes to a knight dressing properly to slay a dragon. As a knight needs a complete suit of armor to go into battle, so diabetics need to protect themselves as they battle diabetes by being careful about their medications, actions and behaviors. Delightful and comic illustrations accompany the text as Dubois explains that cholesterol must be controlled and human kidneys protected in the fight against worsening diabetic conditions. Flu shots and ACE inhibitors will help the modern "knight" win his struggle against the dragon, diabetes.
Diabetes Warrior: Be Your Own Knight in Shining Armor is sound and accurate medical advice presented in a format that even youngsters afflicted with juvenile diabetes will understand. The information is well written and easy to apply. His admonition to get a flu shot makes solid sense. The concept of being like a medieval knight and arming oneself against a ferocious dragon is creative and applaud-able. The author's prior writings and the extensive bibliography at book's end shows that Dubois is knowledgeable about his book's content. One can only wish that other books on chronic and threatening diseases be written in a similar manner for the general public. Diabetes Warrior is a little honey of a book that should be in many hands and pockets!
