Dog communication. There's an app for that. At least there is in Dog Talk by LuAnn M. Rod. George Theodore, or GT, is tasked with caring for his mother’s bratty poodle, Fifi, for the entire summer as punishment for an incident involving the principal's car. On the first day of summer break, GT accidentally crushes his cell phone while trying to catch Fifi. This is how GT meets Ludo, the phone vendor who sells him a replacement. Little does GT know that the phone contains a special app for interspecies communication. When the faulty software zaps GT and Fifi, the two can communicate with each other. Alarmingly, GT also begins to turn into a dog. Not enough? Incredibly, GT and his new friend Meaghan become witnesses to criminal activity!
This is not your average summer break. LuAnn M. Rod delivers a riveting good versus evil plot, with fast-paced action and plenty of humor in Dog Talk. Rod has given our hero quirky flaws making him down-to-earth and highly personable. His impulse to blurt out useless trivia is especially unique and highly entertaining. And with phrases like, “. . . Shana leaned back with her lioness-that-ate-the-baby-antelope look,” Rod’s show-versus-tell style of writing is wonderfully vivid. The theme of self-discovery is best represented by GT’s decision to own himself, “. . . —the good, bad, dorky, and doggy—whatever happened next, no matter who did or didn’t accept me for being me.” Dog lovers and fans of mystery and suspense will not want to miss Dog Talk.
