Dual Convergence: Witness to History by Angel Giacomo is one of the most interesting books I have read in a long time. The author has brought to life the history of the Roosevelt family in a very down-to-earth way – warts and all. Internal family squabbles. Family divisions. President Roosevelt's family on one side and the cousins from Georgetown on the other. The family’s dynamics are shouldered by Colonel Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt IV, who closely remembers his great-uncle, President Roosevelt. It starts with accepting the Medal of Honor for President Roosevelt, given posthumously 100 years after his death. This was due to the politics at the time, which is why he could not receive it then.

Both Roosevelts served in the Military. President Roosevelt fought during the Battle of San Juan, better known as Kettle Hill, and his successor, Colonel Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, fought in the Korean War and in Vietnam, which caused him to be ostracized by the family after his Aunt Edith said that the family would always stand together. Teddy Roosevelt could always feel the presence of President Roosevelt every time he needed help for guidance in life, in battle, in training, and in his teaching career. The main character takes the reader on a journey of discovery, encouraged with sayings like: “It is not the critic who counts, but the man who climbs.” President Roosevelt’s motto was: “Always climb until you have fulfilled your aim in life.” Teddy sees his great-uncle from time to time, who encourages him to carry on climbing the hill until his duty is done. Angel Giacomo brings the story to an end in a most unexpected but heart-warming way. I found Dual Convergence most profound and helpful with life, especially when going over personal family history and how we all drop out of the loop and forget to start climbing again. Thank you for a book that will be read more than once and handed down from generation to generation.
