Family Ties (The Kinnear Chronicles) by Joshua Sanofsky is a fantasy, sci-fi adventure. Alys Kinnear is a highly ambitious country girl who wishes to become a wizard. She passes the Mage tests and shes goes to London to pursue her studies that will aid her in becoming a wizard. This takes her on a dangerous road and it might be unsafe for a girl like her. She is confronted by some street thugs who try to steal her employer's property. Alys finds herself faced with a lot of hazards that create blocks in her studies to becoming a wizard. She is also tested in many ways. Will Alys Kinnear, with her countryside upbringing, be able to face the perils lurking in the world outside?
Like any other adventure and fantasy stories, this book is also a reflection of the author's creativity and imagination. I liked the fact that the main character is a girl, unlike many books where mostly it has been boys. The characters are interesting and they capture the attention of the reader. The subplots are blended well with the main plot. The story line is intriguing, with many twists and turns which grab reader attention. The story is interesting and creative, with some exciting imaginary characters and places to make it thrilling for the reader.
