Jess Stanson was not what retired police detective Michael Carven expected when he hired a horse trainer/foreman. He did not want a woman to run his ranch, no matter how good she was; but he agreed to a two week trial. In the meantime, Michael was assisting his former partner Dan Walker catch a serial killer. Michael was the best one on the force until his girlfriend’s murder. He was headed for self-destruction until he bought the ranch and began working with horses. He didn’t want another woman in his life. He was determined to get rid of Jess despite the fact he was starting to have feelings for her.
Jess recognized the murdered woman in the news report. She had seen her with a man. Could Jessica be the next victim? Who was sneaking around the ranch house? Who is calling Michael?
Romance, suspense and humor abound throughout this book. The plot is delightful. I was hooked from the beginning. The characters are easy to connect with. I did figure out who the killer was toward the end, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the story. I would have enjoyed more of an epilogue.
