Finding Lucy (Butternut Creek Series Book 1) by Tess Morrison is a contemporary romance that pits two adversaries against one another. Lucy comes from a small town and has worked as a camp counselor at the Moon Bay Camp for Kids every summer of her adult life. She enjoys the work so much! She loves the kids like her own and is willing to become a momma bear to protect them. So when Ian, a land developer, swoops into town to buy the camp from the financially struggling owner, Lucy jumps into action. Her antics frustrate the self made Ian, who doesn't like kids or women with an agenda. Especially when that agenda is keeping him from doing his job and making a lot of money. But this is a romance and, as typically happens in romances, once the two characters spend some time together, they start to realize and appreciate the other's motivations. Can they let go of their own agendas and learn to love each other? Only time will tell.
This is a really sweet story that has a lot of positives. I like the fact that the story centers around a kids' camp and that Lucy is such a heartfelt, warm character who enjoys working at this camp. Ian is also a great character, who has motivations besides just making money that make his actions understandable, too. There are a number of other side characters and side stories within this novel that readers will also enjoy getting to know.
