Finest in the Kingdom is a children's fantasy adventure by Jeff Whichello. While trying to explore the backyard of their home in Golden Valley, Pennsylvania, Travis Zennett and his little sister, Livy, suddenly find themselves traveling through a mysterious tunnel and arrive in another plane of existence at the shack of a person who calls himself Obomon. The siblings soon learn that they need the key to the North Gate to return home, and in exchange, they must deliver Obomon a pizza from Mama's Pizza, which is closed. After falling into the clutches of the Hobomon, Travis and Livy meet other kids their age alongside several other wacky characters. Now, with the help of their parents, the kids must find the kidnapped head baker and restore civilization before the communists take over everything.
Finest in the Kingdom takes readers on a wild rollercoaster of a ride across other planes of existence. You never know what to expect from this book. Each chapter brings new characters with plot twists and turns that take the story in a direction you would never have guessed. Jeff Whichello spins a yarn that never seems to take itself too seriously, featuring zany characters with unique quirks and idiosyncrasies that will keep young readers thoroughly engaged. Despite being a children's adventure tale, the author also infuses some social commentary concerning homelessness, socialism, and communism into the narrative. The story is funny, absurd, and silly, but most of all, entertaining. Children will have a blast with it. I recommend this book to preteen readers.
