Alex and Leah have loved each other since childhood. They have been together through all the hardships that life has thrown at them. Rejected and uncared for by their families, they have found an anchor in each other and cannot survive without each other. Leah has done her best to help Alex to give up his drug addiction and failed each time. Now that she is venturing out in the world as a fresh graduate with a new job, she has to decide whether she wants to give up on Alex or stay and watch him break all his promises to her. Things get harder with Leah getting pregnant. She has to make some tough choices. Is her choice going to save her life? Will she be able to move on and leave Alex to figure out his life? Does Alex still deserve her love, trust and empathy?
J.E. Hopkins has done a wonderful job of bringing to fore an issue that is seriously impacting many young lives. Alex is the typical drug addict who will trade anything and everything to fuel his need for drugs. He is so lost in life and has lost so much due to his drug habit that he doesn't even think he deserves better. Leah comes across as a strong character whose only flaw is that she loves Alex blindly and will do anything for him. The book does not sugar coat the struggle that being in rehab can be. It gives one hope that it is possible to return from the path of doom and start over.
