Gia Pia and Callie Cat are two lovely little witches who live on Pumpkin Pie Hill. They love to play outdoors, exploring dark caves. On the day this story starts, the sisters are unnerved when their grandmother promises them a delicious treat of frog soup upon their return home. Gia Pia and Callie Cat love frogs and have no intention of eating them. Throughout the day, the duo makes numerous plans to stop their grandma from feeding them frog soup. However, as the end of the day approaches, they find themselves lacking a suitable strategy. What will happen when they get home? Will they be forced to eat something they don’t want to? Find out in Frog Soup, an illustrated children’s book by Brianna Shostak.
I found the storyline and the illustrations equally engaging. The cute little sisters stole my heart with their quirky hairstyles and quick-thinking minds. I loved how Brianna Shostak highlighted the traits of the sister duo. They were self-sufficient, able to make themselves nourishing breakfasts. They were responsible while playing and came back home right on time. They were also resourceful in concocting several ingenious plans. The illustrations are charming and capture the witchy vibes perfectly. Also, the expressions of the characters accurately portray their thoughts. The final twist was as surprising as it was welcome. The full moon, the black cat, the looming bats, and the dark caves filled with candy corns highlighted the Halloween themes. During the spooky season, Frog Soup will be the perfect read for children aged 2-7 years.
