Author Marcia Clark offers readers an entertaining mystery in her latest book "Guilt By Degrees" ("A Rachel Knight Novel"). Clark allows us a deeper look into the psyche of Knight as we discover a secret she has long kept hidden. When Graden discovers the secret it could end any chance they ever had for a life together. I suspect Clark threw readers this tidbit as a tease for the next Rachel Knight book. I was disappointed that she did not take this subplot further in this book. Knight is working two cases in "Guilt By Degrees". The first case is the murder of a homeless man. The prosecutor obviously cares little for the case; after all the deceased is a vagabond. Unwilling to allow the case to be dropped, Knight volunteers to take the case. What at first appears to be a case the Special Trials Unit would not prosecute, the clues soon prove it is in the right hands. The more she digs into this case the more dangers she faces. Working with her is Bailey Keller. They soon tie the murder of the homeless man to an unsolved murder.

Author Marcia Clark has plenty of court room experience to fall back on in developing her plots. I am particularly fond of the characters she has created. This is the second book in this series and it just keeps getting better. Clark provides twists and turns that kept this reader on the edge of her seat. The ending was a complete surprise and rather shocking. I eagerly await book three. My version of this book was audio; January LaVoy lent her voice to this book as the narrator. She not only read the book but conveyed emotions that added much to the plot. Entertaining, thrilling, and above all, a great book.
