Heavenly Made by Michelle Peterson is a sweet figurative tale of the joys of motherhood. A cardinal bird watches over her nest with three eggs that are soon to hatch. She is praying that her young ones be heavenly made. As she patiently waits, she keeps herself busy by flying over the forest. Storms had come and the days pass by. As a rainbow finally dances across the sky, the momentous day arrives for the emergence of her hatchlings. As she welcomes her newborns that fill her heart with joy, the forest seems to be at one in joining with the mother bird’s happiness, as it shows the different kinds of animals living there that are tending to their own young.

Motherhood is, perhaps, the most challenging yet most fulfilling of all vocations, and Michelle Peterson, being a mother herself, understands this. As the mother bird in this story looks forward to her eggs hatching, Peterson’s rhyming verses encapsulate the typical dream that expectant mothers have of their soon-to-be-born child. These words are moments of pride and the joyful hope of looking forward to rearing a good little being who will one day become a great addition to the world. Marisa Weyeneth's line illustrations with soft colors lead the eyes to the relatively simple yet enchanting natural setting. Indeed, Heavenly Made is a storybook that will make a great gift for baby showers and a great bedtime story to teach your kids about a mother’s unconditional love.
