Author Biography

Proud winner of the 5th Annual Beverly Hills Book Awards in the “Holiday” category for Super Speed Sam - Santa's Rescue Dog.

I feel that some of the natural interactions between family and friends are gradually eroding, if not already completely worn away for some. And I was reminded of a C.S.Lewis quotation -

“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.”

It also feels like the simple joy of laughing or crying among family and friends is being replaced by beeps, bops and demands to ‘add new features’ or ‘why doesn’t this work?’ or ‘who’s hogging the Wi-Fi?’.

So I set out to create a fun and exciting series of children’s short stories, with lots of adventure and splashes of humor, all paced to hold children’s attention whether reading or listening… at least that’s my hope!

Stories that will delight both boys and girls, the young and old, and, of course, moms and dads! Tales that allow a return to simpler values, kid-like imagination for both children and adults and, I sincerely hope, bring families closer together.

Basset hounds are supposed to be good at finding things and people, right? Young Jack likes to play hide and seek with his basset hound, Sam. While Dad’s working on his car in the garage and Mom’s busy in the kitchen with his baby sister, Molly, Jack tells Sam to wait in his room while he goes to hide. He knows the perfect place and he knows that Sam will never find him. It’s a small closet under the stairs, a storage space. It’s dark, dusty, and Jack’s never hidden there before. So he knows he’ll confuse poor Sam. What he doesn’t know is that in the process he’ll upset his parents who think they’ve lost him forever. And Sam? Well, he’s a dog with super powers that are supposed to help him solve problems and protect his family. Only his super powers seem to get him into more trouble than be of any help.

Author Monty J. McClaine’s early chapter book, Hide and Panic Stations: Super Speed Sam Book 1, is a clever and humorous story that will delight both young and older readers. This mystery takes young readers through simple exercises in sleuthing that will sharpen their own skills in deductive reasoning. There’s lots of drama as the characters search high and low for a little boy who is really only lost in the comic book that he’s reading. And what a great place to be lost: in a book. That in itself is a great lesson for young readers: the power of the written word to captivate. This is a fun and educational read.

This adventure of Sam (super speed) and his little friend Jack, find Jack missing...mom, dad and Super speed Sam are on the case. My granddaughter and I loved reading this book...she was just a bit sad that there weren't any action illustrations...this gave us time to discuss what Sam looked like and she used her imagination, it turned out to be a nice exercise to help her remember the story too. This book gets a nana's thumbs up!

Excellent story for younger readers

This is the story about McClaine family; Mom, Dad, Jack little Molly and their magic dog Sam. One day Jack and Sam played "Hide and Seek", suddenly Jack disappeared…..
A great story for kids, kids will love to read the story over and over again
The story is fun and imaginative and is excellent for younger readers

I found this to be very readable. A young boy will enjoy this adventure story as it is very imaginative. A dog with super powers!! However, in this story, Jack manages to elude Sam the family dog with secret super powers. The way it is written conveys the excitement and suspense a young boy would love

Monty J. McClaine has written a great story for kids. There is nothing better than a boy and his dog, a game of hide and seek, and a dog with some super powers. Follow Sam the basset hound and his human family as they try to find Jack, who has found the greatest hiding place ever.

JED says

Sam is the family's Basset Hound, but also their protector. He does his best to keep Jack, the troublesome six year old, out of trouble. It's not easy. Luckily Sam has a few tricks up his fur, including super speed.

This first story introduces us to the family that also includes mom, dad and Molly. Molly and Sam are connected more than the rest despite her being the littlest of the bunch. Dad is a tinkerer and has a few hobbies that keep him busy while mom is the one who keeps everything together and running smoothly.

Now, get ready for an adventure when Jack disappears and Sam has to use a few of his amazing abilities. Kids will find Super Sam a fun character and the story a great adventure. The only thing I want to know is what's next for this special dog and what other abilities does he have?

Fun and Exciting Kids book (for boys and girls!)

I got this book for my seven-year-old daughter, and even though it's more focused on a little boy - Jack, she really really loved it:) What's not to love about a cute yet mischievous kid and his sweet dog---who has super powers?! It's exciting, sweet and a really great read for kids and parents (I had fun reading it too!)

A child's sense of fun and imagination

Draws you in from the very first scene with a child's sense of fun and imagination as Jack shoves Sam in a closet in a game of hide and seek. From there the story keeps moving forward. Full of action that is sure to keep kids happy.

A fun dog sleuth story!

Kids will love this story of young Jack and his dog Super Speed Sam as they play a cheeky game of hide and seek.

Jack's hiding place is far too good and Sam is forced to call on his super powers when the entire family cannot find Jack!

This book is fun and imaginative and it will definitely engage younger readers (approximately 7-10 years)

Would love to see some illustrations which would add even more but regardless I would highly recommend!!

Enjoyable and engaging children's story

I enjoyed reading this and found the story and characters engaging. It's a story about a family pet who has secret special powers and uses these to help find Jack who is presumed lost during a game of hide and seek. I look forward to future stories in the series.
