Holiday by Joanna Warrington is a humorous fiction novel about a family and their histrionic holiday journey across western America. Lyn has been separated from her partner for eleven years and feels that she has raised their three children alone. For her fiftieth birthday, Lyn decides to do something for herself; something that she has always dreamed of doing. Lyn is going to use the money she has been saving for years and surprise her family with a trip to America. After making the arrangements, Lyn springs the surprise on them, but is taken aback by the reaction she receives. Instead of being excited, they are upset. Before planning the holiday, she hadn't considered their plans. Despite the mutiny, Lyn goes ahead as arranged. When the day of departure arrives, she takes her rebellious brood to the airport and receives the unwelcome surprise they have for her. Behind Lyn's back, they made arrangements for their father to accompany them on their holiday. Will Lyn's holiday be ruined?
Holiday by Joanna Warrington is an outstanding fiction novel about everyday family drama taken on a trip. It is a sensational story which has a dramatic plot and storyline, with a side of humor and a bit of romance tucked in. With the teenage indifference, emotional exaggerations and theatrics, and parents at their wit's end, frantically trying to liaise with their progeny and each other, it is an amusing and realistic account of a typical modern family. Added to that mayhem is the turbulent relationship between Lyn and her ex-partner. The storyline keeps the reader amused and involved until the surprising, but happy conclusion. This is a fantastic novel for those who enjoy British comedy.
