The power of love is most evident in the special bond shared between a grandparent and a grandchild. There are no conditions attached to this love. Looks don’t matter, skin and hair color don’t matter, what clothes one wears, what activities one likes, none of these things matter. Even if the grandparent and grandchild live far apart, the love that binds is unbreakable and very special.

This is the power behind Jill Kunkel’s charming picture book story, I Will Always Love You. The story is written in simple verse, sometimes rhyming. It is dedicated to the author’s first grandchild, who was perfect in every way as every grandchild is meant to be. The story may be written to her grandchild, but it speaks to grandchildren everywhere, grandchildren of all ages, reminding us all of this truly wonderful, unconditional love. Whilst this story may appear simple, its message is very deep, one of acceptance and caring, one of loving no matter what. “Whatever way you are/ won’t matter at all/ I will always love you.”

The illustrations by Hope McLaughlin are simple and to the point. With vibrant colors, the illustrations carry the little story with a big message to a satisfying conclusion, one of pure contentment, one of pure love. As parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren, we can’t say it enough: the three simple words, “I love you.” Add to that the important message of eternity, “I will always love you.” An incredible story, simple, powerful and from the heart. Well told.

This is a beautiful book with a message deeper than it's words and gorgeous illustration n. If a child has even one person that conveys the deep sense of "I love you always, no matter what," their life is grounded in what it takes to build a healthy sense of self. They can love others. They have a core that their personality can build upon. A lovely, simple book whose reach is life-long.

This is a book that keeps on giving with each read and is the most important gift that I share to friends with young children or new babies.
