Myah ran home in tears. A mean girl at school made fun of her, making her very sad. Her family sympathizes with Myah and tells her a story relating to her situation, about the Dill family on vacation and how they met a coconut who felt blue. In the story, the Dill family minded their own business, swam, splashed, and squealed, but couldn't ignore the blue coconut across the pool. The Dill family liked to have fun and wouldn't mind the coconut playing with them. But the sad coconut declines the offer. Why is the coconut so blue? Can the Dill family get her to feel the joy they feel? How will the story of the Dill family on vacation cure Myah's pain? To find out, get a copy of I Would Love You Even If You Were A Coconut by Bucleigh Newton Kernodle.
This picture book will astound you despite its simplicity. Each character is depicted realistically, and illustrator Ashley Teets' color palette is soothing. Warm tones dominate, and the Dill family's vacation spot appears to be depicted in summer, adding to the colors' richness. The story's beauty is not just the places it takes us to but also the bond the characters share, the challenges they face, the lives they bless, and those who bless them. The love of God for all of us, no matter how angry, depressed or burdened we are, is a calming voice urging you to forgive yourself and others. It also teaches parents the importance of creating time for their children and supporting them when the need arises. I recommend I Would Love You Even If You Were A Coconut by Bucleigh Newton Kernodle to anyone who wants to feel the compassion they once felt and anyone seeking a light to help them see how much God loves them. It also ticks all the necessary boxes for children who enjoy adventures.
