Tyrolin Puxty brings us fantasy fiction without bounds in Immortal Cells. In a world where immortals are seen as monsters, Malin has had a target on her back for too long. Being a northerner has kept her on the run, tired and always hungry. When she is captured and taken to the prison where all the other immortals are, she has no idea what to expect. Conditions in the cells are horrible, as the state of the others soon shows. But things are not as they seem, and Malin soon discovers there is more to the superiors who have taken charge of the prison. When an immortal dies, Malin knows she doesn’t have much longer in this world, unless she accepts her destiny.
With an exceptional writing style, author Tyrolin Puxty brings characters to life who endure suffering and evoke sympathy. The fantastical world is introduced right from the start, driving the pacing and making you want to devour page after page. The character descriptions are detailed, and the emotions are portrayed in such a manner as to create empathy. The supporting characters in this story have a depth of their own that can be explored further. A resonant theme of friendship and found family saturates the pages, enhancing the impact of the plot itself. Immortal Cells is suitable for young adult readers, offering a view of an intricately complex world. I sincerely hope that the next book is on its way, as I am invested in the characters and their stories.
