Liam is a hotshot wildfire fighter with an injury that has caused his career to end a little earlier than expected. Missing the camaraderie with his fellow firefighters, his thoughts turn to his brother who died when he was young. He receives a call informing him that his grandfather passed away, leaving him a Christmas tree farm. Liam decides to move from California to his newly acquired farm, where he falls in love with the house but second guesses his qualifications to run the farm. He wonders if selling the farm will be best, but he worries that the town will view him harshly. Also, someone has caught his eye, and he wishes to pursue her. Charlotte is an author, entrepreneur, and secret confidante to people with romantic concerns. She’s had a hard time with love, and she continues to close herself off from the opportunity to find it. When Liam comes into town with a relationship debacle, she tries not to fall for him.

In the Heart of Autumn: A River Haven Novel is a romance with Christian undertones. Author Noelle Bensen has written a romance that will spark the fire of people who have given up on love after troubled romantic experiences. In the Heart of Autumn is a beautiful, clean romance story with a few surprises that shake the newly formed couple. The points of view sometimes shifted abruptly, but I was able to follow the thoughts of the characters easily. I recommend Noelle Bensen’s book to young adults and mature readers who enjoy romances that inspire loving connections.
