Author Biography

Susan Louise Peterson has been on a twenty year educational journey in the inner city schools of Las Vegas, NV. She has worked professionally as a school psychologist and early childhood educator for many years. Susan has conducted over 1000 multi-team assessments on young children with developmental delays and autism. She writes on school psychology, special education and educational topics.

The book covers areas of communication, unusual behaviors, social interaction, and daily living of autistic children that usually cause concern to their parents. Written by a professional who has had real life experience, the book is a helpful guide not only to parents, but also to therapists, counselors and educators who work with autistic children. The book is written keeping in mind the misconceptions and misinformation regarding autism that is confusing for parents and professionals.

The book has a lot of information and reading it is a good start for those who are handling autistic children. The author covers the topic extensively, discussing all small details regarding autism and autistic children in the simplest way possible so that it can be understood by all. The contents in the book focus on determining if a child has developmental delays and symptoms of autism. The book also covers other useful areas like avoidance behaviors that are found in autistic children, sensory issues, and an unawareness of dangerous situations surrounding them.

The ten parental and professional concerns mentioned in the book are very useful in understanding the problem and handling it effectively. The author's approach to this complex and difficult topic is very healthy and practical. It's an easy read and the facts provided are accurate and precise. The real life examples and anecdotes shared by the author are indeed very helpful.
