It All Starts with You is a children's story about the first day of school, written by K. W. Wilson and illustrated by Josh Flanigan. The first day of school can be frightening for many kids, especially if they feel different from the others. Sometimes kids strike out at others in that fear, and this can cause pain to the victim while not really doing much at all for the frightened kid who lashed out. In It All Starts With You, Mickey, who's got bright red hair and is a bit scrawny, is feeling pretty badly about himself. He pushes Lizzie, who's also feeling a bit lost and insecure because of her speech impediment. She then lashes out at a boy who's chubby and the chain of meanness continues. No one is happy, and everyone is still feeling pretty scared and alone, until they realize that there's a different way to deal with others.

K. W. Wilson's children's story is a great book for kids who are about to go to school and are feeling a bit frightened. The story is engaging and easy to read, with not-too-obvious repetitions and illustrations that make the story come alive. Josh Flanigan's artwork is fabulous -- there's a comic book touch to his drawings that is appealing and fun. I think kids will enjoy reading this book so much that they may not realize how well they're reading and how much better they feel about themselves and about going to school. It's an enjoyable book for parents and grandparents as well.

It All Starts With You by K.W. Wilson is a cute rhyming story with a good lesson hidden inside. In this story, one student gets called a name, so he gets mad and makes fun of another student. That student gets upset, and plays a prank on yet a third student who gets publicly humiliated. The thing about this story that sets it apart is the fact that the kid getting picked on at the end is the same kid who started this whole thing by calling another student a name! It kind of tells students “what goes around, comes around” or something similar. This is really a great lesson for kids to learn as early as possible. When they’re teenagers in High School is NOT the time to start teaching them not to pick on other kids.

K.W. Wilson is rightfully proud to write this book, if it teaches even one student that he/she does not need to be a bully. I believe he has targeted the precise group in need of this lesson. The issue of bullying has been rising significantly for several years. Whether there are actually more incidents of bullying, or kids are more likely to tell than once was the case, really does not matter. ANY bullying is too much. Mr. Wilson’s tale is a very effective and efficient way to teach kids to start thinking about and talking about this issue at an early age. On top of that, the rhymes actually work.

It was little Mickey’s first day of school, and he wanted the other kids to think he was a cool kid. But he had some problems, or so he thought. He was too short, he had red hair, and it didn’t look like he ate enough because he was so skinny and the other kids weren't nice to him -- so he wasn’t very happy on his first school day. This is what happened. Mickey pushed Lizzie and made her cry; Lizzie made fun of Charlie and made him sad; Charlie said ugly things to Nikki and made her cry; and Nikki made fun of Mickey and made him hurt. Now all of them hurt, but what did they gain by hurting each other? What do you think happened in this story with these four kids? Did they apologize or keep on hurting others? Find out when you read K. W. Wilson’s new book, It All A Starts With You.

This wonderful little book shows that when Mickey acted like a bully, he caused others to follow in his footsteps. And it shows just how much kids can hurt each other by doing or saying mean things to others. It All Starts With You does an awesome job of teaching kids the results of being mean and hurtful to others. It also deals with why Mickey and the others had a bad attitude. The author does a fantastic job of dealing with how all kids are different and that it is OK to be different. Added to all of this are the precious illustrations throughout the book. The colors are vivid and bright, the kids are so adorable with cute little faces, and each showing their own personality. All in all, this is an awesome book that every child must read! It can make all the difference in the world in their attitude towards others.

It was a pleasure writing this book and one of the best accomplishments of my life. I'm proud to say I am the author and look forward to years of spreading the message of anti-bullying.
