Jo-Jo Soars and Scores by Jon Selzer is the second book in the Jo-Jo’s Art Adventures series. Jo-Jo is an athletic duck-billed platypus who loves playing lacrosse. But when he joins a team, his short legs let him down, and his teammates tease him. Doubts begin to build up, but a trip to see a ballet at a theater changes everything. He is mesmerized by the leaping, spinning, athletic dancers, and he wonders if learning to dance might help him improve at lacrosse. He starts training and adding ballet moves to his game, and the result is something unique and surprising. What he thought was his failure might just turn out to be the one thing that puts him at the top of the game.
Jo-Jo Soars and Scores by Jon Selzer is a creative and fun kids’ book with beautiful illustrations by Kevin Kelly that tell their own story. It’s packed with messages for kids: no two people are the same, and we all have our own unique talents. It encourages kids to try new things to see where their strengths might lie, and to keep on trying until they find something that works for them. The illustrations bring extra humor and help kids understand and connect more deeply with the story. This is a great tale that children can read as a group at school or before bedtime, instilling belief in their own capabilities and teaching them not to give up. Recommended for all younger readers.
