Kevin de Bruyne (Scouted!) by Magnus Lundgren takes you on the journey of one of football’s smartest midfielders, from a small town in Belgium to lifting the Champions League trophy. The book follows Kevin, a humble but tenacious boy who, after being rejected by a foster family for being too quiet, scores several goals in one half just days later. You watch him grow at Genk, face challenges at Chelsea, explode at Wolfsburg, and become a key figure at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. Along the way, fictional guides like Enzo Gatto, Professor Soccerologist, and Nina Cruz break down statistics, tactics, and drills in a way that brings the story to life. You get a sense of Kevin’s determination, his two-footed skill from practicing with flower pots, and the injuries he had to overcome. If you love football stories with real-life grit and drama, this is an easy and engaging read. Can Kevin keep defying expectations every time he’s on the pitch?

Magnus Lundgren’s Kevin de Bruyne (Scouted!) is a lively sports biography that mixes storytelling with real stats and tactical insights. The pacing is smooth—you zip from Kevin’s childhood in Drongen to record-breaking seasons in the Bundesliga and Premier League without feeling lost. I liked how the book shows his relationships: the quiet influence of his wife, Michele, the encouragement from coaches, and even his playful side at home when he's gaming and baking. The tactical breakdowns by Nina Cruz make his genius understandable, and Enzo Gatto’s voice adds humor and energy to the book. Injuries, tough transfers, and big matches all feel like you're right there with Kevin, and his ability to stay calm through it all is really impressive. It's a solid read for any football fan, no matter your age, especially if you're curious about how a quiet kid worked his way up to becoming a superstar just by putting in the work and staying focused.

Kevin De Bruyne was only six years old when he joined his local club, KVV Drognen, in Belgium. Thus began his journey to become one of the best soccer players of his generation. In Kevin De Bruyne (Scouted!), author Magnus Lundgren presents De Bruyne's story. From being rejected by his foster family at the age of fourteen to winning the elusive Champions League and the Treble with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, De Bruyne has had a long and successful career. In 2010, De Bruyne scored his first professional goal for Genk. Two years later, he signed with Chelsea, but soon found himself on loan in Germany. However, his performances in Germany brought him back to England when Manchester City signed him in 2015. De Bruyne would eventually go on to become the greatest Manchester City player and a legendary midfielder of the 21st century.

Kevin De Bruyne (Scouted!) is a delightful book about one of the most visionary midfielders the game of soccer has ever seen. Narrated by a fictional scout named Enzo Gatto, the narrative follows De Bruyne's interest in soccer from his childhood years to the legacy he has left in the game since then. And he is not even retired yet. In this book, Magnus Lundgren highlights the momentous events of De Bruyne's career, providing stats and charts to showcase his contributions to his teams through goals, assists, and creativity. However, the author also focuses on De Bruyne's personality, his mental aptitude, and his determination to chase his dreams. This is a great book for young fans of soccer. I think even older fans will enjoy it. I certainly did, and highly recommend it!

Kevin de Bruyne (Scouted!) by Magnus Lundgren highlights the life story, skills, and match statistics of Belgian football legend Kevin de Bruyne. From a young age, Kevin already started showing his incredible abilities when he broke all his parents' flowerpots with one single shot. Despite his parents putting up rules to stop his powerful kicks, they only made him a better player, gaining the ability to use both his legs. Kevin joined Belgian football leagues, and despite facing multiple rejections that should have stopped him in his tracks, he still rose to be a star. He eventually proved himself in the Bundesliga and landed a spot at Chelsea under manager José Mourinho, but he only made 9 appearances. This did not stop him as he left the club and joined Manchester City, where he became a goal-assisting player and one of the greatest midfielders in football history. Get to know his personal hobbies, family life, and what motivates him.

Kevin de Bruyne (Scouted!) is not just another children’s sports read. It is also an inspiring tale of how a quiet kid overcame rejection and made it to the top and achieved his dreams. The biography reveals Kevin de Bruyne’s humility, dedication, and incredible skills. The book’s setup is very interesting as the story is told by three guides: a scout, a numbers professor, and a skills coach. This allows readers to understand different aspects of Kevin's life. Magnus Lundgren really helps readers know Kevin the man, and not just the player, through details like his love for birdwatching and cooking for his family. The author also educates readers who are not familiar with football by providing a glossary of terms used in the game. This was a fun read with a happy tone and realistic illustrations. It is a great addition to this sports series, and it will encourage any kid wishing to learn from their hero’s journey and to understand the game of football.
