In Lady Wallflower in Love, a historical romance by Georgia Sutton, the story follows Lady Evelyn Pricewinters, who after public humiliation and heartbreak with Lord Nigel Sedley, is disillusioned with the concept of marriage and society’s expectations. Wanting to escape the ton’s gossip temporarily, Lady Evelyn travels to Porthaven under an alias to visit her cousins, the Hardings, along with her Aunt Dorothea. In Porthaven, Evelyn meets Gabriel Stone, a wealthy wine merchant, and finds him intriguing. Although Gabriel wants to spend more time with Evelyn, he is also wary of love after his previous heartbreak. Will these two individuals with guarded hearts overcome their fears and trust again or will their personal secrets tear them apart?
Lady Wallflower in Love by Georgia Sutton is brought to life with a blend of sensory descriptions, well-thought-out characters, and a touch of humor. The description of Porthaven, with sunlight filtering through tree-lined streets and the charming city square filled with shops, gives a visual backdrop, and the language used grounded me in the Regency era. I got the impression I was following Evelyn and Gabriel in their day-to-day tasks, while anticipation built in the background about the danger and suspense at hand. The dialogues were engaging and peppered with humor. These not only reflected the characters' personalities but also helped move the narrative forward. Sutton balances inner monologue and external dialogue, giving me a peek into Evelyn's and Gabriel’s thoughts and emotions while keeping the pace fluid. The author captures romantic tension, societal norms, and character depth with nuance and charm. I look forward to the next book in the Wallflowers in Love series and can’t wait to see whose journey we’ll be following next.
