Alex and Ella have been close friends since kindergarten. One day during the summer holiday, something changed their lives forever. On that day, they visited the beach to play, and when they got tired and hungry, they decided to cool off in the ocean before leaving. Suddenly, the waves became stronger, and the two children were swept deeper into the ocean. Luckily, both children swim with all their strength and realize they can stand. Ella and Alex are standing on the tongue of a giant whale. They are very scared, but soon they see a huge city. Alex tells Ella the whale had swallowed a whole city, but the people were all smiling. Soon, the children are welcomed into the city of Leviatopia by a strange voice. The city is the best place on planet Earth where everything is free. Levi the whale takes the children on a trip around the city, and it becomes clear why people are smiling. How will things unfold in Leviatopia by Ran Cohen?
Leviatopia: A Tale of a Whale by Ran Cohen is a thrilling and satisfying read that captured my imagination from the first page to the last. Once you start reading it, there is no putting it down. Young readers will love the magical nature of the work with unending fun and all kinds of possibilities. Lessons covered, such as sharing and kindness, will also resonate with many audiences. The illustrations are amazing as artist Sigi Elazar depicts various activities. They help to bring the book to life. Ran ensured the language used is age-appropriate while still providing a great way for young readers to learn new vocabulary. This is a good read, and I look forward to reading something else by this author.
