Little Bear and the Big Hole is a children’s picture book written by Jennifer Seal, with illustrations by Mirjam Siim. The story follows Little Bear, who is deeply affected by the death of his father. He often sits by a large hole, filled with the hugs and kisses they shared. While other animals pass by and disregard his fixation on the hole, Little Bear feels lonely in his grief. One day, Squirrel carefully walks by the hole and approaches Little Bear. This encounter makes Little Bear realize he is not the only one who can see the hole. Squirrel shares his own sad story of losing his sister, providing comfort and letting Little Bear know that he is not alone. With Squirrel's support, Little Bear begins to fill the hole and discover happiness again.

Little Bear and the Big Hole is a poignant story that highlights the pain of grief and the importance of having support during difficult times. Losing a loved one is incredibly sad, and many children struggle to understand their complex emotions or how to cope with grief. This story encourages open discussions between children and adults about these feelings and helps readers grasp the significance of empathy, comfort, and patience during mourning. Jennifer Seal's narrative will resonate with children and their families and demonstrate that healing is possible with love and support. Little Bear's journey of gradually filling the hole beautifully symbolizes release and growth, showing that love and hope can flourish even after deep sorrow and loneliness. The colorful illustrations perfectly complement the story, with lush greenery and warm tones that align with its comforting themes. Overall, this is a heartfelt story that provides valuable guidance for children navigating the complexities of grief.
