Feeling alive in the summer? Are you expecting to be on your way to the seaside for some sea foam and seashells with the family? Just wait until you grab a copy of London Baby Seaside: What Came With Wave by Lande Jewels. It’s a refreshing collection of 19 poems exploring the sweet memories of diving deep into the ocean, running away from the tide on the seashore, hurrying to hide our fish and chips from seagulls, all while trying desperately to fold our blankets. We are taken for a walk along piers full of wonders, echoing past melodies from timeless bandstands filling the air around us. We watch children giggle with rock candy in their hands, donkeys giving rides, and treasure hunters hauling loot from the sea.
I was taken back to my childhood seaside adventures. It put a smile on my face realizing the similarities between beach lovers across cultures. It is astounding how, beyond languages and civilizations, from the Victorian era, before and after, our feelings for the sea remain the same. I couldn’t capture that feeling better than Lande Jewels in her poetry. Her poems light up like stars in the sky. I loved the history bits that enriched every poem. It captured the essence of being alive—enjoying every moment. The oddities of her poems make them unique and contain deeper meanings that resonate with us. I recommend London Baby Seaside: What Came With Wave to beachgoers looking for something to add some flavor to their day.
