Mable Grace Says..."Respect the Flag!" by Camille Takuski is an educational children’s book. Mable’s dad is a marine and Mable is very proud of him. At school, she learned the Pledge of Allegiance and says it out loud every morning. Today is Veteran’s Day and Mable’s dad is attending the celebrations. It makes her heart swell with pride to see him salute the flag. On the way home, they see a group of people who are not showing respect to the flag and it makes Mable sad; she turns to her dad to see what she should do about it. Her dad tells her that she should always do the right thing and never let others lead her astray or discourage her. Mable is happy again for all the times that she gets to spend with her dad.
Mable Grace Says..."Respect the Flag!" by Camille Takuski is a cute book that does two things. It’s a nice story about a young girl and her dad and it also teaches young readers not to let others get in the way and stop them from believing in and doing the right thing. The story is very well told and the illustrations are bright, colorful and relevant, adding to the story wonderfully. It is short and to the point, just how a kid’s book should be; any longer, any less colorful and you wouldn’t have their attention! A good little story that should be read in the classrooms of young children, not just in the States either. The story may be about the US flag but the same principles apply everywhere!
