What if you could slip out of your body and become a spiritual essence when things get tough? Surprisingly, that’s what happens to sixteen-year-old Darcy. Her parents are about to tell her they’re splitting up, and she finds herself suddenly weightless, hovering in a tree above the family consultation, looking down as events she doesn’t want to happen unfold before her eyes. It’s not unusual for parents to split; many of her friends have endured the unspeakable. Darcy just never thought it would happen to her parents. Her ability to become a spirit of sorts and escape into a light-bodied being of her original physical self is unusual. And, she discovers, she’s not alone. There are others just like her. Now she’s hovering between two worlds, the real life in which her body still exists, suffering the after-effects of a parental breakup, and the spiritual realm where life hovers on a balance of what’s real and what’s surreal. She must make a choice; can she remain in both worlds or must she choose one? Find out more in My Life On Earth And Elsewhere by Peggy Payne.

Peggy Payne’s young adult novel, My Life On Earth And Elsewhere, is an intense story that combines fantasy, science fiction, and the reality of growing up. Young Darcy is facing a crisis and a change in who she is and what she can do. It’s an unsettling and challenging time, and she leans on her friends for support, even though there are some things she can’t share with them, like her spiritual awakening. She’s unsure how to explain her out-of-body, spiritual occurrences, so she keeps most of her experiences to herself, fearing she’s losing her mind, just as she’s losing her family. It’s an emotional time for Darcy, and Payne reflects these intense emotions with realism, beauty, and a touch of humor. This is a captivating story that will enthrall both young adult and adult readers.
